Donald Trump delivered his “Immigration Speech” in Phoenix on Wednesday night.
For the first time, Americans were given a strong substantive peek at his authoritative Federal statist leanings.
From his speech:
[W]e will turn the tables and law enforcement and our police will be allowed to clear up this dangerous and threatening mess.
We’re also going to hire 5,000 more Border Patrol agents…
And put more of them on the border instead of behind desks which is good. We will expand the number of border patrol stations significantly….
We are going to triple the number of ICE deportation officers…
We will ensure that E-Verify is used to the fullest extent possible under existing law, and will work with Congress to strengthen and expand its use across the country….[E]stablish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first….Americans losing their jobs to foreign workers, these are the problems we must now focus on fixing.
I could have taken many more outakes from the speech, but the point is Trump wants to expand the Federal police state. He wants to get local police involved in the enforcement of immigration laws. He wants to expand the Border Patrol.
He wants to expand e-verify. He has some kind of plan to prevent immigrants into the country who would “take jobs of Americans,” which shows once again him making the Lump of Labor Fallacy.
It is really difficult to believe that a person who is so willing to expand the Federal police state in one sector is going to be more cautious in other areas. Trump is a serious authoritarian. If he becomes president, the police state expansion won’t stop near the borders.
“Libertarians for Trump” should disband now.
